Pop Up A to Z: Structures Study to Creative Design is an incredible set that includes an in-depth look at paper engineering in a book format (the Structure Study) and a set of 26 double spread cards (the Creative Design). This is the first book from China about the study of pop-ups and movable structures.
The Pop Up A to Z Book shows 156 pop-up structures in four categories (M, P, V & O): Movable structures, Parallel folds, V-folds and Other structures. It also includes a section on the history of pop ups, materials, tools, production and design processes. Please note that the text is in Chinese (see photos).
The Pop Up A to Z Card Set includes 26 cards housed inside of two accordions. Each card is actually a mini book with two spreads for a total of 52 pop ups. Each of the 26 letters include a pop up of the letter and a second pop up that is a creative interpretation of that letter.
Planned and sponsored by Professor Wang Xiaosong, who desired to design an alphabet book 30 years ago, this book was written and designed by Ma Mengxin (@mmx_popup), a young Chinese book designer. She spent over three years to complete this project.
